Rhythmic Noise

Æther Varia, an electronic music project by Nicolas Montgermont, embodies the desire to create generous music based on the principles of experimental music. The exploration of textures and the use of noise and machine recordings are underpinned by a robust rhythmic structure, accompanied by melodic developments on the borderline between dark techno and industrial music. Æther Varia evokes an emotional, dark atmosphere, suitable for both dancing and listening, that resonates with the contemporary political context.

"With Æther Varia, [Nicolas Montgermont] allows himself music that is as much for the ears as for the toes, music that works for all together, all together, yeah, yeah. Relying on a mechanic-robust rhythmic structure, without forgoing rich melodic developments bordering on emo, Æther Varia sounds dark dancefloor. Careful... dark... but not desperate! With its thumping bass and rustling, noisy textures, the dark foreground of this music on the border between techno and industrial music reveals the flamboyant flashes of a Molotov night that's going to give them a run for their money"

"Behind a reduced but effective sound setup (a rhythm box/groovebox/sampler + an effects processor + a mixing desk), the Parisian musician has built a captivating, profound and organic set, constantly oscillating between the pressure of the crawling rhythmic mass and the elasticity of his second filter skin. A sensory axis in constant search of meaning, and whose final scansion sampled from a ceasefire demonstration in Gaza bears witness to its author's naturally militant approach."
